Woman Shot Inside Saratoga Home Dies; Roommate Detained

Breaking: A Santa Clara County sheriff's official now says the shooting victim has died.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- UPDATE: A woman shot Thursday morning in a Saratoga home has died, a Santa Clara County sheriff's official says.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Rich Glennon, the 60-year-old female victim was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound inside a residence in the 18600 block of Bucknall Road. Deputies had responded to the home just after 7 a.m. after the victim's roommate, a 67-year-old man, called authorities to report that he had shot his roommate inside the home, Glennon said.

"Within a couple minutes, deputies arrived at the residence and the male was instructed to exit the home," Glennon said. "Deputies detained him without incident."

The victim was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel, then transported to a local hospital.

In a news release issued at 12:18 p.m., Glennon said the woman had died from her injuries.

The victim's identity was not being disclosed Thursday afternoon pending the notification of her family members.

Authorities have determined the two roommates were the only occupants inside the residence when the shooting occurred, Glennon said.

Sheriff's homicide and crime scene investigators remained at the scene Thursday afternoon, processing evidence and conducting interviews, the sergeant said.

The shooting was reported shortly after 7 a.m. in the 18000 block of Bucknall Road, sheriff's Sgt. Rich Glennon said.

After the woman was shot, the man called 911 and complied with investigators when they arrived at the home, Glennon said.

The woman was taken to a hospital and Glennon did not immediately have an update on her condition. The man has been detained for questioning about what led to the shooting.

No one else was home at the time of the shooting, according to Glennon.
