53 Rabbits Surrendered To SCCAS By Boulder Creek Petting Zoo
The rabbits were surrendered to the shelter have a concerned citizen contacted the agency about the animals.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Fifty-three rabbits recently surrendered to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter by a Boulder Creek petting zoo have prompted the shelter to discount its fee for rabbit adoptions.
The rabbits came to the shelter have a concerned citizen contacted the agency about the animals and a shelter officer did a welfare check on the property, according to the county.
"The owner had become overwhelmed by the rabbits breeding and was happy that we had reached out to him," according to a county news release.

The petting zoo's owner agreed to surrender all the rabbits on his property, except for six that he wanted to keep. The shelter agreed to let him keep the six, as long as they were spayed and neutered, according to the agency.
The surrendered rabbits were transported to the shelter and were spayed and neutered by the shelter veterinarian. All rabbit adoption fees are now $25 at the shelter, which includes spay/neuter and microchip.
