Santa Cruz Mountains Fire Quickly Contained Monday
A grass and brush fire was reported Monday morning northeast of Scotts Valley.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Cal Fire quickly contained a fire reported Monday morning in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Smoke was spotted near Jarvis Road, about 10 miles northeast of Scotts Valley, shortly before 10 a.m., according to the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit. The grass and brush fire was contained at three-quarters of an acre in about 30 minutes, with some help from Scotts Valley Fire District.
Much of the Santa Cruz Mountains region was under a red flag warning from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 p.m. Monday, meaning weather was conducive to the spread of wildfire. Dry and windy conditions have been observed across California.

Cal Fire quickly sent three aircraft, engines and a dozer to respond to the fire. Officials noticed the blaze was boxed in by roads, which can act as a fire break, Cal Fire said.
Firefighters on the ground brought the flames under control.

Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
