L.A. Radio Newsman Dies of Cancer
Veteran broadcaster Jack Popejoy, who lived in Sherman Oaks, anchored news programs on KNX, KFWB.

Veteran Los Angeles radio news anchor Jack Popejoy died Sunday at his Sherman Oaks home from complications of cancer. He was 63.
Popejoy anchored the morning program on news station KNX-AM (1070) along with Dick Helton and Vicky Moore since February 2009. He continued to work on the air until late January. For 13 years he worked at sister station KFWB-AM (980), where he served as morning news anchor since 2000.
Among Popejoy's passions were astronomy and earthquake studies. Popejoy earned a degree in astronomy from Amherst College and went on to cover the space program throughout his career.

A multiple-award-winning broadcaster, locally Popejoy was recognized in 1998 as Journalist of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists. He won 27 Golden Mikes from the Radio Television News Association of Southern California.
