SHERMAN OAKS, CA — Corky's Restaurant, an iconic diner on Van Nuys Boulevard, will close its doors on Sunday after more than 50 years of service. A lease dispute with the restaurant's landlord is forcing the closure, according to Los Angeles Magazine.

An uncertain future lies ahead for the Corky's building, an example of the iconic midcentury style called Googie architecture. The restaurant was designed by the firm Armet and Davis, responsible for other famed Googie buildings around Los Angeles, Curbed reported.

In a series of Facebook posts, Corky's management has urged the community to contact local politicians in a bid to have the building declared a historic landmark.

"Landlords just don't appreciate these unique style buildings and design," Corky's wrote in one post. "Unfortunately, Landlords also have looked past the history with true American Family Establishments and communities like ours will be forever changed."

Aside from food service, the diner served as a filming location for numerous TV shows and movies, including A Nightmare on Elm Street, according to Los Angeles Magazine.
