LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols across the city this weekend thanks to funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
On Friday a DUI checkpoint will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. in Los Angeles along Manchester and Denver avenues while a saturation patrol will be conducted form 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Hollenbeck area, according to the department. The checkpoints were chosen based on the areas' history of DUI-related collision and arrests, the department said. They are not meant as a deterrent to impaired driving rather than a means to arrest drivers.
“The safety of our community is and always will be our mission,” Commander Gerald Woodyard said in a statement. “We are still out there looking for impaired drivers because driving under the influence is still dangerous.”
