The crash took the life of a 40-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both of whom were from Santa Maria.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — One of two victims in Saturday's fatal four-car crash on the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks was identified Monday morning.

The crash took place at 12:08 a.m. Saturday morning along the eastbound Ventura Freeway just east of Van Nuys Boulevard. According to California Highway Patrol, a 20-year old woman driving a 2008 Honda rear-ended a 2019 Isuzu box truck, causing both cars to spin out toward the center divider.

The box truck crossed over onto the westbound side of the freeway, where it was hit by a 2017 Honda driven by a Reseda woman, who was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

Bianca Lopez, who was driving the 2018 Honda that caused the initial crash, was hospitalized with minor injuries. CHP Officer S. Geraty said she was later arrested after they discovered alcohol played a role in the crash.

"The collision with the center divider wall, and subsequent collision from the 2017 Honda, caused significant intrusion to the passenger compartment of the Isuzu," Geraty said. "Two passengers from the Isuzu suffered fatal injuries as a result of the these collisions."

The CHP's West Valley office urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 818-888-0980.
