Fun Facts for the Fourth of July
Do you know how many hot dogs were consumed, fireworks launched, or flags bought to celebrate Independence Day?

Almost 236 years ago to the day, America’s founding fathers declared these truths to be self-evident, “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

- Over 137 million Americans were registered to vote, according to the U.S. Census.
- The name "Liberty" was ranked 568 and "America" was ranked 811 on the list of most popular baby names for girls in the United States, according to the U.S. Government.
- Approximately $3.6 million worth of American flags were imported to the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
- A total of 234.1 million pounds of fireworks were launched in 2011, according to theU.S. Census Bureau.
- Of those fireworks, an estimated 6,278 people were treated at hospital emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries from June 18 to July 18.
- In July, National Hot Dog Month, more than seven billion hot dogs were consumed according to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.
- Of those, 150 million hot dogs were eaten over the July 4 weekend alone.
