Local Groups Like New District
Two major neighborhood groups in Sherman Oaks approve of the proposed new city council district which would be represented by Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge.
The Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association (SOHA)Â and the neighborhood north of the 101 freeway called Part of Sherman Oaks (POSO) both support the proposed city council district, which has just been created by the Los Angeles Redistricting Commission.
The full council still has to approve the new map. Here are the statements from the neighborhood groups. SOHA issued this statement to its members.
SOHA wants to thank all our Members for your support of our Sherman Oaks Redistricting challenge. As you know, the last set of draft maps placed most of Sherman Oaks in Councilman Tom LaBonge’s Council District 4, but separated a section between Greenleaf, Beverly Glen, Mulholland, and the I-405, plus the part of Sherman Oaks west of the I-405 into Councilman Koretz’s CD 5.

Through a lot of hard work supported by your many emails and telephone calls, the Redistricting Commission voted at their February 22nd meeting to keep all of Sherman Oaks east of the I-405 in Councilman LaBonge’s CD4.
We are one of the few communities to get a major change at this late date in the redistricting process. The City Council still needs to approve the final map after they receive it on March 1st, but we feel confident that this decision will carry the day and be effective on July 1st of this year.

SOHA wants to specifically thank Councilman Krekorian whose staff and appointed Commissioner, Craig Miller, worked to develop the redistricting amendment which made Sherman Oaks whole again. We also greatly appreciate the support provided by Councilman LaBonge’s office and Commissioner, Grover McKean, and Councilman Koretz’s Commissioner, David Roberti. Lastly, we want to thank all 21 Redistricting Commissioners, the Commission’s Executive Director, Andrew Westall, and the Commission’s Technical Director, Nicole Boyle for their tireless work on this challenging project.
SOHA looks forward to a productive partnership with Councilman LaBonge and his staff, and hope you will welcome him when he speaks at our May SOHA meeting. Click here to see a preliminary map of the new District.
We especially want to thank SOHA's Bob Anderson and Marshall Long for the hundreds of hours they spent on this project to enhance Sherman Oaks.
