Man Fatally Shot Near Sherman Oaks, Suspect At-Large

LAPD asked for the public's help in solving a homicide that took place in the West Valley Tuesday afternoon.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — A man was shot to death near Sherman Oaks Tuesday afternoon, and Los Angeles Police Department is asking for help in identifying a suspect.

The shooting took place around 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sherman Way and Woodley Avenue, police said. Officers responded to a radio call and found a 42-year-old victim, Elvis Castellanos, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and took the victim to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

An initial investigation revealed the suspect jumped out of a dark SUV at a nearby gas station, walked up to the victim and shot multiple times. After Castellanos was struck, the SUV drove east on Sherman Way, and the suspect ran up to the car and fled the scene.

The suspect was described only as a Hispanic man, wearing a gray hoodie and a light blue coronavirus mask.
