Man Shot And Killed In Sherman Oaks, Suspect In Custody

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — A man was shot and killed Thursday in Sherman Oaks, and the alleged gunman was detained, police said.

The shooting was reported about 5:30 a.m. in the 12900 block of Hesby Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Information on the identity of the fatally wounded man, who police said was in his 50s, was not immediately available. The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation.

According to Fox11, a man described as the son of a homeowner told police he shot "a possible burglary suspect or auto thief" who was armed with a gun. The mortally wounded man got into a car, drove a short distance and crashed into a tree, the station reported.
