Multiple Arrests, Gun Seizures Target Probation Violators

Area-wide crackdown by multi-agency task force includes stop in Sherman Oaks.

More than 250 law enforcement officers served warrants at 160 locations in Los Angeles County Wednesday, arresting 34 people and seizing 23 guns, authorities reported.

Task force members from the county Sheriff's Department, the Pasadena Police Department, the county Department of Children and Family Services, the county Probation Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives fanned out over the San Gabriel Valley, Santa Clarita, Sherman Oaks, Glendale, Pasadena and the Antelope Valley, targeting probation violators and known gang members.

"This operation shows what inter-department cooperation can accomplish," said Capt. Robert Tubbs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Community Oriented Policing Services.

"The mission today was not only to arrest individuals known to be in violation of their probation, but to also ensure that others are fully complying with the terms and conditions of their early release program," he said.

Tubbs said he expected the operation's success would result in similar operations in the future.

The Department of Children and Family Services reportedly found 14 cases requiring follow-ups because of potentially neglectful or abusive situations.
