North Hollywood Heatwave: 110 Degrees During Labor Day Weekend?
A UCLA climate scientist believes there's a good chance the long weekend will bring record setting temperatures to Los Angeles.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — As if August's heat wave wasn't enough, Labor Day weekend will bring yet another grueling stretch of triple-digit temperatures. The weather in North Hollywood is expected to be as hot as 110 degrees on Sunday according to the National Weather Service, prompting another excessive heat advisory for the region.
The excessive heat advisory will go into effect on Friday when temperatures are forecasted to reach 97 degrees in North Hollywood. Saturday's projected high is 108 degrees.
UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain said there's a good chance the heatwave will bring all-time record temperatures for the month of September. Still, he expects less humidity than last month's hot stretch which should make the sweltering temperatures slightly easier to deal with.

"[It] will probably be a bit more tolerable than during the last event given lateness of season, lower sun angle, and better overnight temperature recoveries," Swain said. "This will also be a 'dry heat,' unlike the unbearably humid one we experienced in mid-August."
Officials stressed caution over the long weekend and urged people to avoid leaving the house during the hottest periods of the day. A cooling center will be open from Friday until Tuesday at Las Palmas Park between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
