Sherman Oaks Closes Campus Due To Coronavirus

The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks school opted to close its campus amid the spread of COVID-19

LOS ANGELES, CA —Los Angeles private schools, including the Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica and Harvard-Westlake in Studio City and The Wise School in Bel-Air are closing their campuses over coronavirus concerns. Harvard-Westlake is also halting its sports program and said that one parent was being tested for the virus, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Wise School in Bel-Air closed its campus Thursday after a student's parent was found likely to be diagnosed with COVID-19.

The Jewish early childhood private elementary school sought to reassure families that the parent had not been on campus recently nor did anyone in the family attend the Purim Carnival or subsequent events on campus.The school did not reveal the identity of the parent. Health officials did not recommend the need for Wise School families to self-quarantine in response to this incident, according to school officials.

The school said it would inform families if the Los Angeles Department of Public Healththere advised of a need for anyone to self- quarantine in the future.

The Los Angeles Unified School District announced Wednesday that all large student and staff gatherings have been canceled. All LAUSD schools are currently open, but student competitions and sporting events will continue without spectators. More than a dozen Southern California colleges, including UCLA and USC, have suspended on-campus classes.
