Dispute Over Shia La Beouf's Neighbors' Wall Is Aired

People on both sides of the issue involving a seven-foot-high wall put up by the actor's neighbors argue their case before an L.A. City Council committee.

The dispute over a seven-foot-high wall constructed by neighbors of actor Shia LaBeouf, which opponents say violates city code, was heard Tuesday by the Planning and Land Use Committee of the Los Angeles City Council. A final decision on the wall was put off until November.

LaBeouf did not appear at the hearing, but he wrote a letter supporting his  neighbors Joe and Orit Picker, who told the committee they put up the wall because paparazzi are violating their privacy and threatening their security in attempts to get photographs of the actor at his home, in the 3900 block of Deervale Drive in Sherman Oaks.

Members of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association, who appeared at the hearing, claimed the wall is in violation of the city's building code, which limits walls to a height of 3 1/2 feet.

Others who want the wall torn down testified that it was built on city property in front of the Pickers' home.

At the hearing, the Pickers offered a compromise, involving putting spaces in the 120-foot-long white wall that would be filled with wrought iron. Neighbors who support the Pickers say the spaces would make the wall less of an eyesore.

No final decision was made by the committee. The full City Council is scheduled to consider the wall issue on Nov. 1.
