T.J. Maxx Grand Opening This Sunday
The largest vacant retail store in Sherman Oaks will be opening Sunday as a T.J. Maxx clothing outlet. Borders Bookstore shut down at the location last year.
Good news for the Sherman Oaks economy coming this weekend when T.J. Maxx opens its newest store in the heart of town, at 14651 Ventura Boulevard.
The clothing retailer is the largest store to open in Sherman Oaks since the recession began in 2008.
The big sign out front says "Grand Opening Sunday March 25." Looking inside the window you can see the shopping carts are all lined up in a row, ready to roll. Clothing racks have been installed,and lots of shelving with things like hair products and stockings have been placed near the door.

Cash registers are in place, ready to start jingling.
The 49,000 square foot store has been vacant since last spring when Borders Bookstore went out of business and filed for bankruptsy protection.

"We have high hopes for this location," said Carrie Garfield, a spokesperson for T.J. Maxx, who talked to Sherman Oaks Patch from the company headquarters in Framingham Mass.
The company website claims ' T.J.Maxx stores offer designer and brand name fashion for women, men, teens, kids and baby for up to 60% off department store prices, every day.'
The departure of Borders last year created the largest vacant retail space on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks; news that a major chain will be coming to town has generated a good feeling among many residents.
Construction began early this year, "It's definitely creating some jobs," said Jose Cedeno, one of the construction workers on the project.
