Off-Duty LAPD Officer Hospitalized After Sherman Oaks Shooting

The suspect was arrested and taken to a local hospital.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA — At least two people, including an off-duty police officer were injured during a shooting at a Sherman Oaks apartment complex Wednesday afternoon. The shooting was reported around 2:25 p.m. around 5200 Vesper Avenue, near Van Nuys Boulevard and Magnolia Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Footage of the scene showed a heavy police and ambulance presence while authorities searched for the suspect. The suspected shooter was later taken into custody, but LAPD set up a perimeter to search for a second suspect.

Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department said two victims were taken to the hospital, but details on their condition or identity weren't released.

LAPD confirmed an off duty officer was wounded in the shooting and taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

"At 2:25 PM an Assault with a Deadly Weapon Shots Fired occurred @ the 5200 block of Vesper Avenue in Van Nuys," LAPD tweeted. "An Off Duty LAPD officer has been shot, & is @ a local hospital in unknown condition. The suspect is in custody & is at a local hospital in unknown condition."
