Unemployment Drops Across Los Angeles
About 244,000 people were unemployed last month in Los Angeles County.
LOS ANGELES, CA - The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County was 4.8 percent in July, down from a revised 4.9 percent in June, the state Employment Development Department reported today.
The 4.8 percent rate was well below the 6.6 percent rate from July 2015.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 4.6 percent, up slightly from 4.4 percent in June.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 5.5 percent in July, up from 5.4 percent in June and below the 6.1 percent rate in July 2015. The comparable estimates for the nation were 4.9 percent in July, 4.9 percent in June and 5.3 percent a year ago.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment decreased in Los Angeles County by 56,300 jobs between June and July to reach nearly 4.3 million. Thanks to the summer recess, educational institutions spurred the drop in the government sector, which dropped 38,500 jobs.
