Valley Girl Represents the 818 on NBC's 'The Voice'
Sugar Joans was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and is now reaching for the stars.

Valley native Sugar Joans has made it to the live “playoffs” in realty television’s The Voice.

Filming the singing competition at Universal City, Joans may have made leaps and bounds in her career, but physically, she’s on her home turf.
The soul/R&B singer grew up in Sherman Oaks and Encino, and her parents, Joe and Laurie Pizzulo, reside in Encino.

Grabbed first by newbie coach Gwen Stefani, Joans was stolen by Pharrell Williams during the knockout round.

“I went the The Laurence School until sixth grade and then to Oakwood,” Joans told Patch. “I loved to hang out at Aroma cafe; it’s still one of my fave sports.

“And of course we always got Henry’s Tacos for lunch during free periods at school. I am forever a Valley girl and will always rep my 818 area code!”
Joans calls her father her inspiration. He toured with Alice Cooper and was featured on albums of superstars like Janet Jackson, Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer, but he didn’t have his own breakout hit until the age of 32, according to The Voice’s website.
At 24 and fielding a national spotlight, she’s ahead of the curve.
