Vote in SONC Elections Thursday

Thursday's Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council election is for the odd-numbered seats.

The election for the odd-numbered seats on the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council is set to take place Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sherman Oaks East Valley Adult Center, located at 5060 Van Nuys Boulevard.

Below is a statement from current SONC president Jill Banks Barad about the importance of the Neighborhood Council in the Sherman Oaks Community:

"SONC has provided an opportunity for the community to meet our elected officials from Congress, Assembly and City Council at monthly Board meetings. We recently hosted a reception for the new Sherman Oaks City Councilmember Tom LaBonge."

"We continue to work with City Department heads to improve the quality of life in Sherman Oaks. We work with DOT to fund stop lights, such as the one at Woodcliff and Mulholland, and Neighborhood Watch signs. We partnered with the Bureau of Street Services to create the “SONC Pothole Lottery” and filled potholes and paved streets that were in dire need of repair."

"SONC’s Land Use Committee and the Public Safety Committee are very active. We increased the number of Neighborhood Watch groups from 30 to 60 and funded Ham Radios for emergencies at the new Sr. Center. Through our Education Committee we donated computer equipment for several elementary schools."

The neighborhood council election will be held on September 20 for the odd-numbered seats. We will have mailings and ads to encourage people to run for the Board and come out to vote."
