Workplace Inequities To Be Discussed At Next SONC Speaker Series
Three project directors from the UCLA Labor Center will discuss workplace advancement for marginalized communities.
SHERMAN OAKS, CA — Racial disparity in the workplace will be at the forefront of Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council's next Speaker Series event. Three speakers from the UCLA Labor Center will discuss how to achieve better equity and advancement opportunities for marginalized communities.
The virtual meeting will take place on Saturday, February 27 at 2 p.m.
Project Directors Janna Shadduck-Hernà ndez, Ed.D., Victor Narro and Dr. Gaspar Rivera-Salgado will offer insight during the session.

Shadduck-Hernà ndez focuses on organizing efforts of low-wage immigrant workers, while her teaching develops relevant methods to bring first and second-generation college students into the discussion. She received a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2005, and has published multiple works on immigration, education and labor.
Narro has fought for immigrant rights and other labor issues for over 35 years. He is also on the Core Faculty for UCLA Labor Studies and Public Interest Law Program, and has written books on wage theft and unprotected workers.

Rivera-Salgado directs the Institute for Transnational Social Change, and teaches Work, Labor and Social Justice at UCLA. He is also an independent consultant on transnational migration and diversity trainings for organizations.
