3rd Suspect Arrested for Brutal Beating of 87-Year-Old Man

The Pasadena man was found on the ground and hospitalized with critical injuries.

The third of four suspects suspected in the assault and robbery of an 87-year-old man in Pasadena was in custody today, and police identified the fourth suspect.

Gabriel Anthony Mixco, 19, of Rowland Heights turned himself in at the Pasadena police station on Tuesday night, said Pasadena police Lt. Terysa Rojas. Mixco was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery, and was held on $1.05 million bail, Rojas said.

The attack and robbery happened just after 5 a.m. Friday near the Rose Bowl on West Drive, north of Salvia Canyon Road. People exercising in the area found the senior citizen on the ground and called 911, Rojas said.

The victim, whose name was withheld, was taken to a hospital in critical condition with head injuries, according to police. The suspects took money and the man’s identification and credit cards, Rojas said.

Shortly after the robbery, the four suspects were recorded on video attempting to use the victim’s credit card at a Pasadena service station, she said.

Police described the suspects as three males and a female, and said the four were seen in a black 2003-2004 Honda Accord coupe with a sunroof.

Two of the suspects turned themselves in on Monday, in the wake of the release of security images to the media, said Pasadena police Lt. Tracey Ibarra.

Juan Antonio Medina, 19, of Rowland Heights, and Dominick Tobiah Guzman, 19, of Hacienda Heights, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery, and each was held in lieu of $1.05 million bail, police said.

On Tuesday, police identified Mixco as the third male suspect, and he subsequently surrendered. The female suspect was identified today as 19-year- old Idalene Yvannia Alvarado, of Rowland Heights. She remains at large.

Police said they plan to present the case to the District Attorney’s Office on Thursday for consideration of criminal charges.
