UPDATED: Vet Widow Prompts Emergency at Police Station
The Sierra Madre police went into emergency mode and shut down phones, diverting them to Monrovia police.

The widow of a military veteran caused a scare at Sierra Madre police headquarters Sunday when she brought what appeared to be a grenade to the station, prompting an evacuation and bomb squad response, authorities said.
The sheriff’s department was notified of the situation at the station at 242 Sierra Madre Boulevard about 3:55 p.m., said Deputy Amber Smith of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail was dispatched to the scene, which was rendered safe about an hour later, she said. It was not immediately clear if the device was a live explosive.

Update:
The Sierra Madre Police Department is now operational. All emergency and non-emergency calls for the city may be placed with Sierra Madre Police Department.
The City will release more Information later.

Authorities said there has been an emergency at the Sierra Madre Police Station at 242 Sierra Madre Boulevard and police there are unable to answer emergency and non-emergency calls.
The station is directing anyone trying to reach Sierra Madre police to call the Monrovia Police Department, where a dispatcher said she had no details and a watch sergeant did not immediately return a voice mail message.
