SIERRA MADRE, California – The Rotary Club of Sierra Madre is soliciting nominees for its first annual Rotary Science, Technology, Aerospace, and Robotics (STAR) Awards. The public is encouraged to nominate individuals or teams who have made achievements with humanitarian benefit in one of more of the following areas: (1) Environmental Improvement; (2) Health and Medical; (3) Disaster Relief and Recovery; and (4) Improved Sharing of Knowledge The STAR Awards recognize and celebrate scientific achievements that significantly better human lives.
The awards will be given at a gala reception and banquet headlined by keynote speaker Peter L. Salk, M.D., president of the Jonas Salk Legacy Foundation presented on December 14, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., at the Santa Anita Race Track Chandelier Room in Arcadia.

The Rotary Club is publicly soliciting nominees for the awards. The public is encouraged to nominate individuals or teams who have made achievements with humanitarian benefit in one of more of the following areas: (1) Environmental Improvement; (2) Health and Medical; (3) Disaster Relief and Recovery; and (4) Improved Sharing of Knowledge.
“Our goal is to raise public awareness of scientific advances and their positive impacts on humanity,” said Dr. Alan David Unell, president of the Sierra Madre Rotary Club. “The individuals and groups who we will be honoring give us all hope that advances in science and technology have the potential to greatly improve human health and well-being across the globe.”
