
Local hospitals that service Sierra Madre were ranked in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2013 Best Hospitals rankings released this week.
Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia earned the ranking of 45th best hospital in the state and 26th best hospital in the Los Angeles metro area.
Huntington Memorial Hospital, which services Pasadena and various communities nearby, was ranked as the 10th best hospital in the state and 5th best hospital in the Los Angeles metro area.
The magazine surveyed about 5,000 medical facilities in the U.S. and released its 24th annual rankings according to 16 specialties.
"Death rates, patient safety, and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered," U.S. News and World Report notes. "Only 147 hospitals [roughly three percent of those analyzed] were nationally ranked in one or more specialties."

- Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood and its sister campus in Santa Monica (ranked in 15 specialties) were named the top hospital in the state and Los Angeles area and fifth best in the country
- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (ranked in 12 specialties) was ranked fourth in the state and 13th nationally

- Keck Hospital of USC (ranked in four specialties) was ranked eighth in California
- UC Irvine Medical Center was ranked ninth in the state
