Sierra Madre General Plan Entering Review Period

The environmental impact report for the General Plan that will serve Sierra Madre's long-term planning document will be entering a 30-day public comment phase that starts on September 23.  

During that time, community members "can submit comments and suggestions regarding the scope and content of the EIR" by emailing Danny Castro, Director of Development Services by e-mail todcastro@cityofsierramadre.com, or by mailing City of Sierra Madre, 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA  91024.  The city will also host a meeting on the subject on October 15.

The general plan serves as a long-term vision for the city and covers the following seven categories: 1) Circulation 2) Conservation 3) Housing 4) Land Use 5) Noise 6) Open Space, and 7) Safety and Seismic Safety.

Much of the plan deals with future land use.  The city documents on the upcoming public comment period note:

Assuming a theoretical buildout (post-2035 scenario) of the land use plan, the City is projected to accommodate approximately 5,017 residential dwelling units (4,911 existing plus 106 new) and 8,808,401 square feet of non-residential square footage (8,757,035 existing plus 51,366 new), which includes commercial, manufacturing and institutional land uses. Additionally, approximately 544 acres will be dedicated to open space and hillside management.
