Stranded Hikers Lowered By Rope Over Cliffs
Rescuers spent hours locating and reaching the pair in Coyote Canyon above Altadena, and then it got interesting.

The Altadena Search and Rescue Team rescued two hikers lost above Altadena in Coyote Canyon today.
The hikers called 911 operators about 10:30 a.m. and said they were lost. The team responded by foot and with vehicles before locating them, according to Deputy Daniel Paige.
The hikers told their rescuers they were stranded on a steep canyon and were directly under several large power lines. It took the team two hours to reach the pair, and they used more than 475 feet of rope to guide the hikers to safety. They lowered the hikers down over several cliffs, Paige said.

The hikers had been following a dry stream bed up the canyon and hiked past some steep dry waterfalls when the ground beneath them got loose and crumbly.
The hikers, a man and woman, were not injured.
