Updated: Hiker Comes Home, Search Ends

An elderly hiker left Saturday morning and was supposed to return Saturday night, authorities said. The morning search ended when he showed up at home.

Update: The sought-after hiker arrived home at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning unharmed, according to Robert Klusman of Sierra Madre Search and Rescue. Search teams are pulling out.

Previous: A 73-year-old hiker from Arcadia who left Chantry Flat Saturday morning and has yet to return has triggered a search effort from the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team and the Sheriff's Department Sunday morning. Authorities are searching the Chantry Flat area along with areas around Mount Wilson, with aid from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station.

"He normally does these day trips (to Mount Wilson) every Saturday," said Lt. Tom McNeil of the Temple City Station, which watches the Chantry Flat area. "We don't know if he ever made it up the mountain … we're assuming he did, since it's part of his routine."
