The following is an official announcement from the office of Congresswoman Janice Hahn's, whose district includes both South Gate and Lynwood.
Washington, DC— Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech at the Port Authority of Jacksonville, Florida:
“Our nation’s ports are vital engines of our economy. Ports move the vast majority of our goods in and out of our country, and are responsible for millions of jobs in port communities and across the country. The success of American businesses relies on the efficiency and global competitiveness of our ports.

“President Obama said it in his State of the Union address, and today he made himself perfectly clear: ‘we need modern ports so we can move more goods made in America out to the rest of the world.’ Our economy cannot depend on unmaintained and underfunded ports. Our outdated infrastructure is doing nobody any favors. It is critical that we invest now in our ports, roads, and bridges and ensure that American businesses have the ability to compete in the world economy.
“I applaud the President’s commitment to strengthening our nation’s infrastructure. I share his commitment and will continue to fight for these critical investments. As the President noted, ‘making sure we have world-class infrastructure shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It’s an American issue.’ It is critical for the future of our economy and getting Americans back to work.”
