Coroner ID's Woman as Fatality in Weekend Crash

By City News Service

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on Angeles Forest Highway south of the Pearblossom Junction was identified today as a 35- year-old resident of Santa Maria.

Dawn Marie Downey was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported at 12:48 p.m. Sunday at Mount Emma Road, said Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter.

California Highway Patrol Officer Tatiana Sauquillo said Downey was on a 2006 Suzuki GSXR1000, following her husband, who slowed to make a U-turn on the northbound shoulder, then stopped.

As she slowed to make the same U-turn, she was hit by Jorge Garcia, 27 of Long Beach, who was trailing the husband and wife on a third motorcycle and allegedly driving at a high rate of speed.

Garcia was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries, while Thomas Downey was unhurt.

The crash was still under investigation this afternoon, she said.
