Illegal Fireworks Plague South Gate & Lynwood

They are easier to get than you ever thought possible.

On some nights it can sound like a war zone with all the fireworks and illegal firecrackers going off all around us. I have noticed over the years, particularly, the past 5 years they have been getting louder and louder. There seems to be no control over this and even a possible $1,000 fine and jail time doesn't seem to be a deterrent. It's not hard to get these fireworks as they were before. Gone are the days of driving to Nevada, Arizona, or even Tijuana to get your illegal firework fix. Now it's as easy as doing a simple "Fireworks" search on Craigslist or Offer Up, and even Facebook sales groups. You get many listings just as if they were selling a jacket or shoes. These ads even appear on Facebook of all places. The ad's are cleverly disguised with props and a load of illegal fireworks in the background and seem to operate with impunity.

These are not simple bottle rockets they are selling. These are missiles that explode with as much force as a 1/2 stick of dynamite. These are extremely dangerous especially in the hands of children. We all may assume that kids are the ones firing these off at all hours of the day but looking at the prices my question is where are they getting the money to purchase these fireworks?

I hear and see a lot of valid complaints about this from residents of South Gate and Lynwood. These loud booms are terrifying to pets and is just as scary to babies and toddlers. These are often fired off at all hours of the night waking residents who are sleeping and often confuse them with gunshots.

This is not just a 4th of July issue, because these fireworks are going off, seemingly all year round. It's getting to the point where residents are just getting fed up with this. Nobody has been able to offer any type of solutions to this ongoing dilemma.
