Lynwood Centennial – City Hall History Original Text

Did you know that the current Lynwood City Hall is the third one it the City’s 100-year history?

When voters approved the City of Lynwood’s incorporation in 1921, there was no city hall. Early city council meetings were held at the former Lynwood Company building, which was damaged by fire and too expensive to rebuild. Residents voted to authorize construction on a new City Hall on the current Plaza Mexico site which was completed in 1928.

From the book “Images of America: Lynwood”:

“The new building was an imposing two-story, redbrick structure that house the first fire department, police department, treasurer, council chamber, building department, court clerk and city clerk offices. In 1963, another new city hall was constructed on Bullis Road that stands to this day.”

Today’s Lynwood City Hall is not only where City business is conducted, it also serves as a central location for many city events throughout the year such as the National Night Out event (not celebrated this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic) to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
