Jose, who works in the Recreation and Community Services Department, was recognized at last night’s City Council meeting for going that extra mile to ensure that Lynwood residents and visitors enjoy their experience at City facilities and events.
He has worked at the City for 21 years and has been crucial to many of the Department’s activities such as the Senior Meals program, after school programs, youth sports, special events and oversight of the City’s parks. Of course, the majority of Lynwood residents know him from his work at the Natatorium and with the Marlins Swim Team!

He is known for going above and beyond – here is one example from his nomination:
“…in December 2020, Jose assisted an underprivileged family that recently started participating in Youth Center programming. He overheard a group of three siblings discussing how they wished they had bicycles. It was known within the Youth Center team that the siblings came from a very low-income household. Jose asked the three to draw what their ideal bikes would look like. An expert cyclist himself, he took the drawings and voluntarily built three new, custom bikes from scratch and gifted the bikes to the kids!
From supervising facilities one day, to heading home delivery of meals to seniors the next day, to park maintenance another day, Jose brings high energy and a “get it done” attitude every day.”
Congratulations Jose! Every day you prove your dedication to the residents of Lynwood, and we are all appreciative of your hard work!
