Lynwood Prepares for National Night Out 2013

The following is an official announcement from the City of Lynwood:

Residents and Members of the Community are invited to join millions of other Americans celebrating National Night Out in their Cities on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 as the City of Lynwood’s Neighborhood Block Watch Organization hosts its 2013 National Night Out Block Party.

For 15 years, the City of Lynwood has shut down a portion of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, between Bullis Road and Hulme Avenue on the second Tuesday of every August to be amongst the hundreds of Cities across the country taking a stand against crime.

“The event increases awareness about law enforcement programs and City services available to the public,” said Natalia Medina, the City’s Block Watch Coordinator. “Throughout this event, Neighborhood Block Watch Captains also have the opportunity to recruit new members to join the organization in hopes of making neighborhoods safer.”

While the Neighborhood Block Watch Organization strives to recruit Block Watch Captains for every block throughout the City at this event, its main purpose is to increase public awareness of law enforcement, public safety, the fire department, and about City services and projects. National Night Out is also a time when residents are encouraged to speak to City staff about their concerns, praises or to voice their opinions about how the City can improve services.

Along with free hot dogs, thanks to a donation from Consolidated Disposal Services, attendees will also be treated to entertainment by the Ritmo & Fuego Dance Group and by Gifted Nations. Attendees of National Night Out will enjoy exhibits by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Crime Stoppers, and an array of informational booths.

“This is a great time to come out and meet City staff, meet our Sheriff’s deputies and our firefighters, and to learn about all of the services available to you as a resident and business owner in our City,” said Deborah Jackson, Director of the City’s Public Relations Department.
