Lynwood Sports Division Hosts Baseball & Softball Opening Day

The event will also have a contest.

This Saturday morning, April 6, Lynwood Park’s Baseball Fields are expected to be used by 700 youngsters and their families as Lynwood’s Recreation and Community Services Department’s Sports Division holds its yearly “Youth Baseball & Softball Opening Day.”

Forty local baseball and softball teams are expected to play throughout the day’s festivities that will kickoff a new season for both sports. Lynwood Mayor Sal Alatorre is expected to throw the first pitch of the season, and will alsocall out the infamous, “Play Ball.”

“Baseball is an all-American tradition that youth in our City love,” said Mark Flores, Lynwood's Deputy Director of the Recreation and Community Services Department, in a statement. “They look forward to hearing the first ‘Play Ball’ callout during opening day. It’s like the starting gun for runners."
