Performances Students from local Los Angeles County school districts will participate in a Music Appreciation Workshop that aims to increase student participation in arts education and to provide underserved students with a culturally enriching visual and performing arts experience.
The event at the Lynwood Unified School District will feature a performance from internationally-renowned blues artist Mighty “Mo” Rodgers and a student performance of the song “What a Wonderful World.” In addition, students will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of interactive activities including writing blues songs and reviewing excerpts of videos of Louis Armstrong, one of the most influential jazz artists of all time. Workshop curriculum will help also students gain an understanding of the origination of Blues in America and its influence in the creation of ragtime, Jazz, Dixieland, R&B, rock & roll and hip-hop.

The workshop is sponsored by the District African American Advisory Parent Council (DAAAPC) - Lynwood USD, Los Angeles Unified School District Board Member Marguerite LaMott, District 1, the California Association of African-American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA), the Los Angeles County Alliance of Black School Educators (LACABSE), Sankofa Education Alliance, Each One – Teach One: Alliance for Academic Access, Achievement and Success (E1T1)., Inc., and the Los Angeles Unified School District Council of Black Administrators (COBA).
Following the workshop at Lynwood Unified, students will travel to the Hollywood Bowl for a picnic supper and a “Tribute to Louis Armstrong” concert. Transportation to the concert is sponsored by the City of Lynwood.
