Police Ask Public's Help in Finding 14-year-old's Killer

Alisia Gomez had been riding her bicycle when she was shot several times, authorities said.

Law enforcement officials asked for the public's help today in tracking down whoever killed a 14-year-old girl -- a gang member, according to authorities -- as she rode a bicycle in Compton.

The victim of Saturday night's shooting was Alisia Gomez of Compton, said coroner's Lt. Joe Bale.

Sheriff's homicide detectives today continued investigating the shooting death of the girl. The shooting happened at 10:10 p.m. Saturday at Elm and Alameda streets, said Sgt. Harry Drucker of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

"Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the victim lying in the street suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead," Drucker said.

"According to witnesses, the victim was riding a bicycle when she was shot. The suspect left the scene in an unknown direction. There is no suspect description at this time," he said.

The shooting was believed gang-related.

"The victim is a member of a local street gang," Drucker said.
