SG: I Watched Political Attack Videos so You Didn't Have To!

A Warning for Every South East Los Angeles City:

I don’t even know where to begin with this nonsense but let me give it a shot. A person is making videos attacking candidates for the city of South Gate council seats. And what is interesting to me is that these are all attacking what seems to be a specific candidate. Now, yes, I know that one of the many things that makes this country great is our constitutional right to free speech. What is also great is that I can criticize this gross act of political aggression by an “anonymous” user.

See the beauty of social media is that it has people engaged. It has people asking questions and it has our community realizing that we are not alone in wanting a city to raise our kids, enjoy retirement, live, work and play in. But there are people out there right now at this very moment who are being blinded by hate. Blinded by the stupidity of sin, otherwise very smart people making very poor choices. And I haven’t made up my mind for candidates but when a candidate is being attacked and singled out mercilessly like this, a person can only come to one of two conclusions. That these are attacks founded in truth or they are attacks rooted in lies fearing the truth will come out. What this anonymous user has proven is the latter.

I don’t know who this is, and I do not know who is involved but it is irrelevant because what I do know is that I am disheartened, disgusted and repulsed by such acts. South East Los Angeles has a notorious reputation for corruption and dirty politics. Might I remind you of Robert Rizzo? Back room deals for pots shops and corrupt company contracts like those of Mario Beltran who is actively running campaigns in our city and through SELA. More importantly have we forgotten the antics of politicians like Albert Robles and his cronies already? We had people being harassed at their homes when kids or grand kids were present. We had people smeared and intimidated out of the city. We had someone get shot!

While we have these events in our past, if we leave this unchecked-- these dirty attack strategies, guess what road we are back on? These are local city elections. LOCAL ELECTIONS! Who matters in local elections? Most importantly, our youth and our seniors. Who supports them? Hard working taxpayers like you.

Let's be honest South Gate. You are not dumb. You are not living under a rock. But whoever is making these videos and those politically active individuals that are associated with this person think otherwise. They think that you will not seek the truth and find honest people to run for office. While yes, I find it important that every city council member come out and disavow these dirty political tactics in all of its forms and against any one person or PAC; I find it more important for these politically active people to accept that this is wrong and silently disassociate themselves for the good of our city.

I love South Gate. I love the people in it. We deserve the best because we can be the best of SELA. Please get out there and vote for who you know to be associated with the community and good people. Find out who is involved with corrupt power players like Mario Beltran and just say no. Get out there and vote South Gate.
