On Tuesday, the South Gate City Council, carried out its annual rotation by selecting ice-Mayor Gil Hurtado as the new mayor.
“He is gentleman who has worked very hard,” said outgoing mayor councilmember Bill De Witt, who nominated Hurtado. “[Hurtado] has also been very active in our community doing other things, [such as with] the parks.”
The South Gate City Council is made up of five councilmembers who are each elected to a four-year term. The Mayor and Vice-Mayor are selected by the councilmembers, who rotate the two positions on an annual basis.

The council also selected councilmember Henry Gonzalez as the new vice-mayor.
