Spectrum Awards SE Community Development Corp. $35,000 Grant
Spectrum announced that the Southeast Community Development Corporation is one of the recipients of its 2018 Digital Education Grants.

Spectrum announced that the Southeast Community Development Corporation is one of the recipients of its 2018 Spectrum Digital Education Grants. Southeast Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization based in Bell, received $35,000 from Spectrum to support digital literacy training for the local community and to help shrink the digital divide.
Spectrum presented the $35,000 grant to the organization at an event held at the South Gate Girls Club House on Friday, April 26.
“On behalf of the Southeast Community Development Corporation board of directors, staff and volunteers, I would like to thank Spectrum for supporting our digital literacy program in the southeast area of Los Angeles County,” said Cesar Zalvidar-Motts, Southeast Community Development Corporation, Executive Director. “This support will help our kids develop problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and explore STEM-related activities.”

“In our increasingly technology-driven world, the importance of digital education and access to digital resources cannot be overstated,” said Deborah Picciolo, Spectrum, West Region Senior Vice President. “Through the Spectrum Digital Education Grant Program, we partner with leading community organizations like the Southeast Community Development Corporation to help bridge the divide and provide communities in need with the tools to grow and prosper in the digital age.”
Since 1994, the Southeast Community Development Corporation has focused on improving the education, health, public safety, environment, and economic climate for the residents and business communities in the southeast area of Los Angeles County.

The Southeast Community Development Corporation and 22 other deserving nonprofit organizations were chosen from among more than 170 applicants as Spectrum Digital Education Grant recipients — part of an overall $1 million commitment by Spectrum to provide digital education in the communities it serves. Locally, Spectrum has awarded more than $100,000 in Spectrum Digital Education grants to nonprofit organizations in Southern California, including human-I-T, Step Up on Second Street and the San Diego Futures Foundation. Spectrum Digital Education grants support organizations that help educate families and seniors on the benefits of broadband and how to use it to improve their lives. Through the $1 million effort, Spectrum will also provide PSAs, workshops and other technical assistance to local nonprofits.
