South Pasadena Middle School kicked off its first day of school Thursday, with 1,115 students in attendance, under the watchful eyes of 51 teachers and a staff numbering in the 80s, according to school Principal David Kubela.
"We're off to a really great start, " the principal told South Pasadena Patch as the school's corridors fell silent and classes began shortly after 8 a.m. "The kids are really doing well."
