$5K Reward in Fatal Hit & Run of Grandmother in La Mirada

A Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department Press Conference was held today at the Norwalk Sheriff's Department Station in Norwalk, Ca., regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal hit-and-run of Maria “Carmen” Chavarria.

Los Angeles County Sheriff"s Department Norwalk Station Captain James Tatreau, Norwalk Station Traffic Detective Sergeant Mark Wilkening and the victim's family, announced a $5,000 reward, presented by the city of La Mirada, for anyone with information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) driver in this case.

The victim’s family made a plea to the public, asking for the person(s) involved in the hit and run of their beloved mother and grandmother, to please come forward.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Norwalk Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the 14800 block of Escalona Road, La Mirada, regarding a hit and run. The deceased, Maria “Carmen” Chavarria was walking her two young grandchildren home from school when they were hit from behind by the suspect vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene. Victim Maria "Carmen" Chavarria did not survive her injuries.
