Every friday, two lucky kids will take one home as 'Campers of the Week.'

Patch: From who do you obtain the trophies?
LR: This time from a member of the Arroyo Timebank. A friend of hers (who was athletically gifted) had given her 47 trophies to use in a film. She had shot the film and then saw my request.

Patch: How'd the idea come about?
LR: Most trophies have a shelf life and then we are done with them. Instead of throwing them out, what about passing them on. It’s a great method of recycling.
Because the trophy was first won by someone else, then thoughtfully donated, and then artistically enhanced, there’s an added specialness and uniqueness to the award. These trophies are full of history and full of life.
Patch: What are some of the unique trophies campers have created?
LR: In general, I like when they paint the trophies with vibrant colors, particularly feminine ones like pink.
I like the giant, colorful mittens that were designed for the swimmer that extend up his arms.
Patch: How do you determine "Camper of the Week"?
LR: The counselors consult with each other and decide. It’s based primarily on enthusiasm, cooperation, kindness and good sportsmanship.
Patch: Is Camp Med still accepting campers this summer?
LR: We may have a few spots that have opened up during our last couple of weeks of our Summer Camp Med, but for the most part we fill up a month, or so, before our Summer Camp starts. However, we are currently accepting applications for our Afterschool Program!
Patch: How about volunteers?
LR: Anyone who is interested in volunteering with Camp Med can come in to the Recreation Offices and pick up a volunteer application. Volunteers are accepted on an "as needed" basis.
