The South Pasadena Public Library invites children to read for an hour to a very special audience—dogs. That’s right, bring your kids, aged 5 to 10 years, to the library’s Children’s section today, Monday, Dec. 2, starting at 3 p.m, and watch slack-jawed as they read animal-related short stories of their choice to pooches brought in from the Pasadena Humane Society Companion Animal Program. The idea isn’t just to make reading more fun. It’s also to builds children’s confidence in reading aloud, while making them aware that animals, too, experience a range of emotions similar to their own. Perhaps above all, the exercise encourages and enables kids to appreciate the importance of treating all animals with respect and kindness. Sign-ups are required. Contact Children’s section librarian Maida Lin Wong at (626) 403-7358 or e-mail her at mwong@ci.south-pasadena.ca.us.
