Honoring Carol Liu, Architecture Author Night

1. Sen. Carol Liu to be honored

The City of South Pasadena is scheduled today, Tuesday, Oct. 22, to recognize the successful passage of Senate Bill 416 authored by Sen. Carol Liu (D-La Cañada Flintridge) in an effort to expedite the sale of 587 properties that Caltrans owns along the 710 gap in South Pasadena, Pasadena and Los Angeles. 2. Memorial run for Officer Kevin Sandoval

3. Architecture Author Night 

Mark your calendars: Stephen Gee, a producer for ITV Studios in Los Angeles, and Debi Howell-Ardila, a senior architectural historian for Sapphos Environmental as well as a South Pasadena Cultural Heritage commissioner, are scheduled to give presentations at the South Pasadena Library Community Room on Thursday, Oct. 24, starting at 7 p.m. Gee will discuss his recently published book, “Iconic Vision: John Parkinson, Architect of Los Angeles,” which focuses on Parkinson (1861-1935), who designed and helped creat 400 buildings in Los Angeles, including the Coliseum and Union Station. Howell-Ardila will talk about  nationally acclaimed South Pasadena architect Whitney R. Smith (1911-2002), who served on the Planning Commission and the Community Redevelopment Agency of South Pasadena.

4. Halloween Spooktacular

Mark your calendars: The City of South Pasadena's annual Halloween Spooktacular is scheduled on Friday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. atOrange Grove Park, located at 815 Mission St., near the Orange Grove Avenue intersection. Besides a costume parade and contest, the free event will feature a variety of games and arts and crafts. Contact the city's Parks and Recreation department at (626) 403-7380 for more information.

5. Neighborhood Watch expansion

Mark your calendars: The South Pasadena Police Department and the South Pasadena Public Safety Commission are scheduled to organize a citywide Neighborhood Watch Community Awareness Day on Saturday, Oct. 26. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., police officers and volunteers will go around South Pas and knock on doors to encourage residents to participate in the Neighborhood Watch program. Those interested in helping expand the Neighborhood Watch Program should call Det.
