'Routine Update' Knocks Out Union Bank Computers

Online banking, ATMs and other services were offline for much of the day Tuesday.

SOUTH PASADENA, CA -- Thousands of Union Bank customers were without banking service Tuesday when the computers at the financial institution went out of service.

The problem started around 9:30 a.m., according to a Union Bank tweet. The bank said the problem was caused by a routine update that knocked out service to online banking and ATMS.

"We had experienced an unanticipated delay within our internal overnight processing that affected various systems," Union Bank spokeswoman Tanya Peebles-Hil said. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers."
