S. Pasadena Temps Expected To Rise Tues, Then Drop 5-10 Degrees

Summer may have ended, but South Pasadena will get another blast of heat Tuesday thanks to a round of Santa Ana winds.

SOUTH PASADENA, CA -- Summer may have ended on Monday, but the greater L.A. area will get another blast of heat on Tuesday thanks to a round of Santa Ana winds that are expected to push temperatures into triple digits in some areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys and the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, where temperatures are expected to range from the 90s to just over 100. The western San Fernando Valley is expected to see the highest temperatures, according to the weather service.

According to the NWS, temperatures in downtown Los Angeles are expected to reach 92 degrees on Tuesday, then drop to 88 by Wednesday and into the 70s by Thursday. Woodland Hills, meanwhile, is expected to reach 102 on Tuesday, then drop 10 degrees on Wednesday and fall into the 70s by Friday.

``The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,'' the NWS said in its forecast. ``Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.''

Offshore winds expected to develop Monday night into Tuesday could bring ``a big jump in temps, likely recovering all of what we lost today and likely more as warmer valleys reach the triple digits and coastal areas reach the low to mid 90s away from the immediate beaches,'' according to the NWS.

The heat is expected to be short-lived, however. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly by Thursday, ``and there is a chance of light rain late in the week into next weekend.'' Forecasters said there will likely be a 5- to 10-degree drop in temperatures beginning Wednesday.
