"The Drowsy Chaperone," with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, based on a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, was a Broadway sensation, garnering multiple Tony Award nominations in 2006 and 2007. It pays tribute to the Jazz-age show of the 1920's and the power those shows held to transport us into a dazzling fantasy and to lift our spirits in times of sadness. The cast and crew includes over 60 students including 8th grader Mia Dawson, who plays Janet. About this year's production, she exclaims, "There's so much song and dance. It's a great play. The audience is going to have a fun time."
Led by seasoned SPMS drama director Marion Tompkins, the show is sure to be a crowd favorite. Jane Washburn, mother to 8th grader Ellie Washburn, who portrays Kitty in the musical, and a lead parent liaison, says, "It's a great group of kids. It's a special time in their lives. Marion makes it so magical."
