Stolen Car Chase Ends In Metro Train Crash: Police

HIGHLAND PARK, CA — A stolen vehicle being followed by officers crashed into a Metro Gold Line train Wednesday afternoon in Highland Park, injuring one person aboard the train.

Another vehicle was involved in the crash, which was reported about 5:19 p.m. in the area of Figueroa Street and Avenue 56, near the Highland Park Metro station, and the stolen car ended up crashing into a building, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and reports from the scene.

Officers had been following the stolen vehicle when the collision occurred, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im said.

The man who was driving was taken into custody along with three girls who were also in the car, he said.

Gold Line service was halted between the Southwest Museum and the South Pasadena stations because of the collision and buses were used to accommodate passengers, Metro reported.

Partial service was restored on a single track by about 5:45 p.m. and full service, with delays of about 20 minutes, was restored by about 6:50 p.m., according to Metro.

The injured passenger was taken to a hospital, according to the LAPD.

She complained of back pain, a Metro spokesman said.
