SSF's Sign Hill Blaze Contained But Evacuation Orders Remain

Residents at Ridgeview Court, Carnelian, Road, Sonja Road, Viewmont Terrace, and Mountain Road have been ordered to evacuate immediately.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Firefighters have gotten the upper hand on a 4-alarm grass fire at South San Francisco's iconic Sign Hill, but evacuation orders remain in effect, officials said.

"Fire crews continue to work of full extinguishment," SSF's Fire Department said on Twitter. "Evacuation orders are still happening, please continue to stay out of the area."

Residents at Ridgeview Court, Carnelian, Road, Sonja Road, Viewmont Terrace, and Mountain Road have been ordered to evacuate the area immediately.

A temporary evacuation center has been set up at 33 Arroyo Drive.

The blaze is raging in South San Francisco on Sign Hill, the city said on its Nextdoor page.

“At this time there is a four alarm fire on Sign Hill,” Communications Director Leslie Arroyo said.

“Authorities are on the scene and evacuation instructions will follow as needed.”

The fire was first reported at 11:54 a.m.

Fire officials ask that drones be kept away from the fire.
